Charities

Several charities have places on offer in various up and coming races. Ones who have contacted us lately are:

Bowel Cancer UK

If any of you have been successful in getting a general ballot place in the London Marathon 2010 and haven’t decided who to raise money for yet, please consider Bowel Cancer UK. Bowel cancer is the second most common cause of cancer death in the UK, but very treatable with more than an 80% survival rate over five years if diagnosed at the earliest stage.

We really need your support. Bowel Cancer UK receives no government funding and relies on donations from people like you to help us run our services. Bowel Cancer UK runs health promotion awareness days and trains volunteers, health professionals and community leaders so that they can spread bowel cancer awareness to others. The charity also runs a peer support service where people who have had bowel cancer can support others who have just received their diagnosis.

Our Advisory Service, staffed by specialist nurses provides information and support to anyone affected or concerned about bowel cancer. We are a small charity, with less than 20 staff, but we are working on a big health issue which deserves and needs more attention.

We will support you throughout your training and on the big day we will be there to cheer you on as well as help you celebrate at our runners after party once it is all over.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or would like further information. If you would like to run for us and join the Bowel Cancer UK London Marathon 2010 Team please reply to this email and we can begin to support you. If you would like to talk to us about making Bowel Cancer UK your running club’s charity for 2010, that would be fantastic too.

We hope and look forward to hearing from you soon. Email us on events@bowelcanceruk.org.uk

Kidscape

We are a very small charity working hard to protect children from bullying and child abuse. We work directly with children and can see first hand how our crucial work turns their lives around. Kidscape is the only national charity devoted exclusively to preventing bullying before it happens. Please have a look at www.kidscape.org.uk for more details.

As a small charity, we rely on a combination of donations and fundraising to keep our work going. An important part of this fundraising is the money raised from sporting and challenge events. Kidscape has several guaranteed places in running events coming up in the next twelve months, including the Virgin London Marathon, the Silverstone Half Marathon, the London Triathlon and the Asics London 10k. We are looking for enthusiastic runners to take part in these events in aid of Kidscape.

We can provide running vests, fundraising support and team support at every race. Any interested club members should contact Kidscape.

If you have any questions about the work that Kidscape does, or would like further details of the support and advice that we can provide for runners taking part in an event in aid of Kidscape, please do not hesitate to contact me at rachael@kidscape.org.uk
