Getting there & parking
The race HQ is situated opposite the Portishead Open Air Pool on the Lake Grounds. Parking will be available on Esplanade Road, but will be very limited on the day due to the Carnival traffic, as well as customers of the pool. Other parking is available on Beach Road West. Please be considerate to local residents when parking.
Due to the road closures in place for the Carnival, the seafront section of Esplanade Road, just off Woodhill Road.
People arriving from the M5 should leave at junction 19 and follow the signs for Portishead. Stay on the main road until you arrive in the town centre at a T junction with a petrol station on your right. At the junction turn right and then left and follow signs for the Lake Grounds and Open Air Pool.
The Route
The race will start on Lake Road, a hundred metres or so from the HQ. This road is flat, but does have small speed humps, so be careful!
The route then takes a short, gentle climb up Rodmore Road past some elegant flower gardens, then cuts across onto Battery Lane, before turning left at the church and descending down Cabstand to the High Street.
After a right turn, the race will pass between thousands of cheering supporters before ending at the foot of St Peter’s Road.
On finishing, all runners will be supplied with water, reunited with their baggage, and given a programme that entitles them to entry to the Show Field, where there will be stalls, a funfair, live music and of course a licensed bar.
This year the race will be followed by a procession of the Bristol Mod Scooter Club.
Safety and Welfare
Although the roads will be closed along the entire race route, keep in mind that there will be a large number of pedestrians around, especially on the High Street. Personal music players are discouraged as they will prevent you from hearing instructions from race marshals. No animals are allowed in the race.
Water will be available at the start and finish.
Baggage
There will be a baggage store at Race HQ, and we will take bags to the finish line for people who do not want to return to the start. Although we will make every effort to be gentle, please accept that we can’t be held responsible to damage to personal items, so pack sensibly!
The Carnival
The Portishead Carnival takes place in June each year and attracts thousands of residents from the local area to both take part and to support. It raises thousands of pounds for charities and raises the profile of the town.
